Introducing WORKING - A collaborative brand between Middle Distance and our friends Tender co.
Working together from our studios in Glasgow, Scotland and Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Working reflects our individual approaches to design and production and allows us to interrogate each other’s understanding of fabrics, art and design history, uniform constructions and an expanded notion of workwear. The project name is made up of the initials WK and RN and garments are produced in England and Japan.
Named for the trapezoidal shoulder yokes, split off like oxbow lakes from the sides of a formal tailored yoke.
The signature overlap back seam construction is adapted from bib overalls design and the cuffs of Lee chore coats, while the single flapped chest pocket refers to military utility and architectural minimalism.
Unhemmed hand-pinked bottom edge echoes the signature Working swatch tab and keeps the edge light and flat. The pinked edge will gradually soften and gently fray over time.
Tailored standless collar combines elements of camp, penny, funnel, club, mandarin, stub, and shawl collars.
Buttons are made from cellulose acetate derived from recycled cigarette butts.
