WORKING SEER HAT BEACH TAR 100.00 GBP
Introducing WORKING - A collaborative brand between Middle Distance and our friends Tender co.
Working together from our studios in Glasgow, Scotland and Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Working reflects our individual approaches to design and production and allows us to interrogate each other’s understanding of fabrics, art and design history, uniform constructions and an expanded notion of workwear. The project name is made up of the initials WK and RN and garments are produced in England and Japan.
Named for the See-er, another name for an oracle, or wizard, as well as the 2012 album by Swans. Constructed in the same ’sandwiched’ way as the loft and drone jackets.
The shape is based on a 1940s British army hat made for Sikh soldiers, conical in shape so that a turban could be wound around it.
Sandwich construction of three fabrics- Majocchi polyester-cotton high tension gabardine, raw organic cotton open cell mesh, and peach finished cotton oxford. Sandwich creates quilted texture of a down jacket without the thickness or heat. The cotton mesh middle layer shrinks in dyeing, pulling in the other fabrics, but will gently stretch out with wear, for a personal fit.
Garment dye fully dyes the cotton lining and sewing threads, but only dyes the cotton fibre within the intimately blended gabardine- polyester fibres remain olive green, giving the fabric a special mottled appearance similar to a covert cloth or marl jersey.
